Travel Tips for Hollywood – Sun Preparedness

It’s true that, even at night, Hollywood Boulevard shines bright with neon lights, but when you’re planning a trip to Hollywood, California, there’s another bright light that you’re going to want to prepare for! They don’t call it Sunny Southern California for no reason! And, if you’re not prepared, your day walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame could turn out not so fun. So, before you head out to see us, follow this advice.

  1. Sunblock – Look for a sunblock that has an SPF or 30 or higher, is water resistant and protects you from both UVA and UVB rays. Apply it not only on your face, but on all areas of your skin that will be exposed to the sun. It’s most effective to apply the sunscreen 30 minutes before you venture outdoors. Plus, reapplying can be just as important as wearing it in the first place. A new coat should ideally be applied every two hours. Sunscreens do become less effective over time, so if your bottle is older than three years, it’s time to hit the drug store for a refresher.
  2. Shade – So many options here that could help you survive a day in the sun. A wide-rimmed hat can help keep the sun off your face. A handheld sun umbrella with UV blocker can filter out 99% of the sun’s harmful rays. And, of course, taking breaks from being outside is a no-brainer. 3. Hydration – A healthy person needs 30 to 50 ounces of fluid per day, but not all at once. So, bringing along a bottle of water and sipping it throughout the day is your strongest defense against dehydration. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink; thirst is the first sign of dehydration. Other signs include dry mouth, feeling tired or lightheaded, and headache.
  4. Dress right – Particularly if it’s a very hot day, consider wearing loose-fitting, light-colored and lightweight clothing. Dark clothing absorbs the sun’s rays and could more easily cause overheating.

We look forward to seeing you when you visit Hollywood, California and hope these travel tips lend to you having a truly fantastic vacation!
